A view over the Harties Dam

a late afternoon view over the Hartebeesport Dam, South Africa, resulting in some exquisite reflections!

After Julie's comment below, I decided to add these words to the post :  this picture was for me one of the most profound lessons in photography (so far), it was getting late, everyone in a hurry, but I was compelled to take a few (hurried) shots anyway.   I left, not really expecting much.  The fact that a few of the pictures (including the one above) came out, for me was a valued lesson in "capturing the moment" - take that picture no matter what, because you may never come back to the same spot under the same conditions - I wrote a post last year on exactly that - click here to read it - be sure to click back to the post and to link to the other participants of Skywatch, LATSOF and Weekend Reflections).

The mountains and sky are stunning. The heavenly reflection of the pale blue sky is beautiful, the mountain as impressive on the watery surface too. South Africa looks to be of stunning beauty, so we get to think about this faraway place through photos like these. Wonderful looks. Happy New Year Gena!

Gena, your shot reflects the immensity as well as the beauty of our natural world. It must have been awe-inspiring to come upon such beauty of land, sea, and sky on a day when everything was so still and so clear.

I wish you a happy and healthy journey into twenty ten.

"Take the picture no matter what" - I totally agree with the sentiment. Some of my best pictures have been taken in the spur of the moment. This one that you've posted is amazing!

Happy new year!

Response: Hi Julie - thanks for popping by! So glad you enjoyed this shot - after your comment I added some words, about the essence of capturing the moment here is the link : http://tobethinkingaloud.blogspot.com/2009/05/capturing-moment.html

This was one of those "it's getting late, in a hurry, hope it comes out, but need to capture the moment at all costs" shot and it was worth it.

Wishing you a fantastic new year too! and hope to see you back again.

I love this image: for a hurried shot this is more near to perfection than many others seen around.

This is an amazing reflection shot, picture perfect. In my experience, these hurried shot turn out to be the best ones. This one looks like a beautiful painting.
