Unexpected Finds

This past Saturday, I attended one of the Parktown Heritage Trust Walks - this time of

the old Johannesburg General Hospital precinct. It was sad to see decay and run

down buildings, but at the same time, amazing to see what great work is being done

to restore most of them. Photographically this was a truly an exciting time - the

contrasts, the details and the unexpected were around every corner.....

So the image above is part of the Johannesburg Hospital building with wild flowers

growing around it and just for a Blue Monday, offset against a gorgeous blue sky.

These two images are close ups of the the wild flowers and of a dried seed head

- growing abundantly amidst apparent chaos and decay.

Blue Daisies

a couple of weeks ago I posted some pics taken of the vibrant African Daisies

which abound just before spring .....

I "played" around with colour settings and came up with these as a

different version.... perfect for a {blue} Monday .....

Another post on the gorgeous museum village of Pilgrims Rest, which we
visited late last year.   As per previous posts, most buildings are as
they were in times gone by and are being used as actual stores,
hotel space or living museums ...               This blue building is the original
general dealer (grocer etc.etc.) so it is set up as a real store back
in the times of the gold rush.   It great to walk around and see the
wares "on sale" and other wonderful items for that time.

I loved the texture and detail on the outside and of course the gorgeous red and

rather rusty Pepsi sign....

Another store sign in the area ... selling arts & crafts and also serving

as a restaurant. This is the same place where we stopped to enjoy

Morning Glory

The Morning Glory has got to be one of the most photogenic flowers around!

The bluish/ purple/lilac colour, the shape, the simple, subtle detail, it's just perfect for capturing on camera.

They do have one flaw though, the centre part is literally a luminous white,
so depending on time of day and angle, the centre area often is not clear -
just a white "haze". Well I was determined, and eventually managed to snap
at the right angle to capture the inner detail - woo hoo!!!

Incidentally this "plant" has been declared an invasive alien in South Africa (as it
smothers everything in sight and self seeds copiously) - that said, they are
still gorgeous!
