A Walk to the Waterfall

These were captured at the National Botaincal Gardens, which makes a perfect outing due to the hikes, walks, and wonderful views, as well as being a great place to take pictures.   The sun was still too high for my liking, but I decided to capture a few scenes anyway. 

Picture above is a view of the walk to the waterfall - I wanted to capture the scale of the surrounds - the mountain, the trees vs. the pole fencing and people, for example.

South Africa in Pictures: National Botanical Gardens

A family on a Sunday afternoon stroll through the National Botanical Garden (also known as the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens) in Roodepoort, South Africa.

It's a vast "garden" set amongst cliffs, a waterfall, masses of indigenous flora, partly landscaped gardens, picnic areas, a wondereful restaurant (Eagles Fayre) and it's also the venue of the Sappi Concerts in South Africa's Autumn and Winter months, amongst other numerous events throughout the year.

You can also do the JCI Geological Hike through the surrounding mountains, but be warned it's a tougher and longer walk than it looks, so go prepared with proper walking shoes, suncream and water. For more info on the Garden, click here

South Africa in Pictures: View over Johannesburg

A view over part of Johannesburg (in the distance) taken from the top of the Roodekrans Ridge (on the JCI Geological Trail/ Hike) in Witpoortjie, where the National Botanical Garden is situated.

Note the vast number of trees - Johannesburg, is considered to have 6 million trees, making it appear like a rain forest in satellite images - see article.
