Kyalami Castle

a view of the steep driveway taken through the ornate entry gate
Castle Kyalami was built in the 1990s by Greek millionaire and architect Demos Dinopoulos,
who had intended it to be status symbol for his extended family,
it subsequently became a hotel/ restaurant.

Impressive looking castle on the hill! And really love the ornate gate! It's such an unusual colour and design!

1990's...such an unusual date for a castle! It must be the "youngest" on the planet! That gate and the gardens beyond are fabulous!

In the 1990's? I thought it would be much older! I love the view through the gate.

A beautiful gate and view behind it.
What did happen to this builder? But the building is huge for one family, I think :)
Very interesting place anyway.

Great shots Gena! This reminds me of something that was built long ago. I wonder what it looks like inside?

Now that's something I didn't know ... I remember going with my Dad to Kyalami to see the F1 races ... but that was ages before this castle; imagine that I still remeber seeing Jody Sheckter at the beginning and it took a while for him to become champion with Ferrari.

The gate composition is beautiful! And I had no idea there were castles in Johannesburg...
