Wild Grass

I have a fascination with the simplest of things and how gorgeous they can look
with the right angle, the right light and some patience ....

Depth of Field

Another one from a test with sharpness, lighting and depth of field -
a costume ring in sharp focus against a canvas of the Eiffel Tower in soft focus....

Reading Corner

Well the title says it all .. a quiet reading corner in our lounge.
I was testing the 50mm f1.4 lens in terms of lighting depth of field, with no particular aim
in mind other than to see what it could do, this is one of the images from this test -
loved it so much that  I decided to edit and post it....

Dahlias

Another Monday and time for macro's or close up images - as I adore the fine detail
of flowers and the insects that live in and around them, so this is always a favorite
post for me.   Today's selection is of dahlias ...
I adore the shape of the flowers, the petals, the vibrant colours and at times the
'weathered look" and feel about them ...
Wishing you a great week ahead.  I leave you with a thought :
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Crab Apple Blossom

Although Spring is on it's way out here, and has yet to come for the northern
hemisphere, to me it's one of the most beautiful times of the year.   Before it's too late
I decided to post some images from my collection of blossoms -
this time Crab Apple blossoms... and the odd insect

And a quote from Robin Williams :
"Spring is nature's way of saying, "Let's party!"

Portinho Beach, Portugal

Images from my trip to Portugal this past June.

These are of the beach area adjoining Portinho da Arrabida - it's
secluded and very scenic. I love the fact that it's surrounded by a huge
mountain as a backdrop, and the sand dunes are covered with
very different vegetation... see below ...

Wonders from a vegetable garden

would you believe that this selection of images were all taken in
mom's garden in Portugal (June this year)
I am always in awe of how the simplest things in the right lighting
can create an amazing image.
{simple things like onion, garlic, parsely, cabbage and green beans...}

Springs Blooms

I am amazed at the number of flowers, plants and trees that have
crawled out of hibernation in the last week or two ..... suddenly a shrub
that looked half dead is covered in flowers or leaves.   This is why Spring
is such a time of renewal, not only in nature but I think within ourselves too
..... there is a palpable energy in the air that I find so inspirational. A time
to do things, try new things, stretch our limbs and our minds ....
The picture above is of the Wild Garlic plant (Tulbaghia) indigenous to South Africa
the tiny white blooms of one of the Spirea shrubs above, and, below tiny white Erigeron daisies.

when I took this pic, the wind up up slightly, hence this image is not 100% sharp,
but I love the effect created from the subtle movement.
I wish you a great week ahead!!

African Daisies

I recently spotted a garden bed full of the vibrant African daisies, and
camera in hand hopped out the car to capture what I could.
Don't you just love their vibrant sunny "faces" in an array of yellow
 to deep orange shades???
I decided best I post some now, as spring is in the air, and it's time to
post blossoms, poppies and other spring type blooms ....

Agapanthus Seedhead

For those of us who know the agapanthus flower, we normally associate it with a
vibrant tall spike of purpley blue flowers, or occassionally white also.
But today I grace you with the remains of the agapanthus flower head... the last
few seed pods and seeds (black bits) of the season.
I'm a bit of a sucker for abstract forms in nature, I find the shape, texture
and colour of seedheads/ seed pods, truly fascinating....
I also attempted to play around with exposure on this image - above is a
slightly underexposed version, whilst below is the slightly over exposed
version - which to you prefer?

"Field of Flowers'

Whilst visiting the annual herb festival on the gorgeous Doonholm property,
I found a few interesting angles from which to try
something 'different'.   Here is one example, where crouched behind
the bed of blue indigenous Felicia (forefront), I managed to capture the
trees and flowers just ahead ...... making it appear like a field of flowers,
with a lot more distance and depth than there was in reality ....

Meandering Pathway

another landscape of the Magalies mountain range, viewed through the
surrounding grasslands, and catching a glimpse of a meandering pathway,
heading ... well, who knows where?! this is the countryside after all ...
