On the road ... again ....

 We're on the road again... well not literally.  I was recently writing a post about time - 

that fact that at this time of year it appears to be such a "big issue" - I have a few 

perspectives on that thought, but that's for another post.   

 The reason time came up, was that in looking thru my archives (in fact whilst 

"cleaning" out),  I came across a folder with photos taken from a road/ country trip we 

did exactly a year ago (you see, I told you time flies!!).   As I've not blogged or posted

much about this trip and since there are some really scenic shots, I decided, now is as 

good a time as any.....

So, we were on the road to Nelspruit (a main town in the Eastern Transvaal, now called

Mpumalanga) and the largest town before heading out to Mozambique.   These pics 

were of our first stop on the way to Nelspruit, at Milly's just outside Machadodorp.   The

area is renowned for it's trout  and trout fishing, and it's truly gorgeous, so Milly's was 

the place we chose to stop at.   The picture above and below give a very good idea of 

what the surrounds look like ....

 Blue skies, rolling hills of green, lots of water .... to top it off a wonderful mud house 

and nguni cattle - this has got to be one of my favorite pictures of rural south africa .....

 after lunch we continued onto our destination and stopped by an old friend for coffee.  He happens to live high up on a hill, and these two images

are some of the wonderful views he enjoys on a daly basis.   There was a storm coming in so clarity was not at it's best.  Still scenic nevertheless.....

Airport in the Bush

this picture is taken from a road that overlooks the SAA Museum (near Rand

Airport).    I loved how through the lens, it appears like a number of

airplanes parked amidst the trees in the middle of nowhere.

And then of course, don't you just love that wonderful bright blue sky?

An Estate Garden

a gorgeous late autumn sky over northern Johannesburg

Scenes from an amazing Urban Garden in the outskirts of Johannesburg

Landscaped and designed  by my friend Donovan of Nature and Beyond.

It's a blend of garden and wild grasses and predominanatly inidigenous - which

is the way to go in terms of water requirements and

the wonderful array of birds of the area.

Dawn over the Stone Barn

Last weekend we took a break in the Lake District on South Africa, Chrissiesmeer. 

We stayed at Florence Guest Farm where we had a fantastic time.   It's a perfect
country spot, quiet, clean air, gorgeous scenery, breathtaking views etc.etc.   
In fact in my mind it's the perfect detressing weekend getaway....

Obviously it also served a purpose in enabling me to capture some gorgeous
scenery  of which this image is one .... taken at dawn, over the original
Stone Barn - the sky had a mottled look, almost refusing to let the sun
through, and creating quite a dramatic background to this gorgeous old building.

Where the sea ends and the sky starts ....

I took this picture whilst at the coast in March.....

The weather was changing from a warm day into a grey and

blustery afternoon, as can be seen by the whispy cloud formations.

What I love about this image is how the sea an sky seem to mimic

one another and how similar the colouring is, so much so that

 at first glance it appears that you cannot distinguish

where the sea "ends" and the sky starts ....

Stormy Skies over Nelspruit

a stormy sky hanging over the valley in Nelspruit

Incidentally this image was taken from a friends' patio - what a view!!

 - and they get to enjoy this everyday!!!!!

Nelspruit is the largest town in the Lowveld (Mpumalanga province) and

is  developing at a pace of knots.  It's also the last major stop before

the Mozambican border, so has become a real thoroughfare and a

shopping mecca for people from over the border.   It's also very close

 to White River, Barberton and the Kruger Park to name a few places.

Dappled Afternoon Sky

A lovely sunset or a crisp blue sky, are amazingly beautiful, however I find my

 favorite aspect of skywatching is when the sky is alive with shapes and

colours - like before  or after a storm of just when mother nature has decided

 to imbue the sky with specks of 'fluff' ...... hence today's image.

Orange Sky

a deep orange sky with streaky clouds.

this image was caught with a wisp of cloud just passing infront of the sun.   

that coupled with the large upright lights of the highway give this image

an almost "unreal" look.
