Trees... and wide open spaces

 I adore trees.  In fact I adore wide open spaces with gorgeous trees and the odd hill 

or mountain.  I think it's a childhood memory from living on my grandfather's farm.

  Here are three images from various outings in the country.   

Even standing on their own, one or a few, they have such presence, 

they demonstrate such strength ...

Contrasts

I entitled this picture "contrast" because I loved the look of the 

 fragile poppies and wildflowers growing on this embankment against

a rock solid (literally) wall and old olive tree.  

The contrast is also in relation to new life and growth vs. the old, ancient and

 established - the ancient walls of the castle and the very old olive tree

under which the poppies were growing.

 This image was taken during the recent trip to Portugal outside the

St. George Castle in Lisbon.  We were in a rush and a  snapped a few images

in a hurry, wish I'd caught more of the olive tree... alas!!

"Field of Flowers'

Whilst visiting the annual herb festival on the gorgeous Doonholm property,

I found a few interesting angles from which to try

something 'different'.   Here is one example, where crouched behind

 the bed of blue indigenous Felicia (forefront), I managed to capture the

trees and flowers just ahead ...... making it appear like a field of flowers,

with a lot more distance and depth than there was in reality ....

Country Picnic

A vintage inspired country scene - a lunch picnic on the foothills of the Magaliesburg.

The next few images/ posts will be from a collection taken late last year in the

Magaliesburg area, whilst visiting friends ....  I have not posted from this shoot before

 and although some of the images are not my best shots (amazing how much I have

 learnt since then!!!), I still love them and the energy and feeling they invoke, just by

looking through them.  

It is a beautiful part of our country, is the Magaliesburg!!

An Estate Garden

a gorgeous late autumn sky over northern Johannesburg

Scenes from an amazing Urban Garden in the outskirts of Johannesburg

Landscaped and designed  by my friend Donovan of Nature and Beyond.

It's a blend of garden and wild grasses and predominanatly inidigenous - which

is the way to go in terms of water requirements and

the wonderful array of birds of the area.

Autumn Leaves II

I came across an array of Cherry Tree autumn leaves in our courtyard and

managed to capture a few worthy of keeping.

This one is my favorite of the set - I love the colour, the fine detail,

the light and shady bits .....
