Nice photo, Gena. Did you steal the Australian Bottle Brush or did we steal it from you? It looks the same. I can't check because ours has finished flowering for now. Bruce.
Hi Pat/ Bruce - yes these are the Australian version .... as far as I know no bottle brush species is indemic to south africa. Some types to handle a fair amount of cold, other's not too much - but I guess it really depends on what we mean by cold, hey?! Thanks for the visit and your comments Gena @ Thinking Aloud
The brush may be man-made, but it has a natural beauty, too. I see this as an undersea plant, the red bristle 'fingers' would be moving with the currents in the sea. Maybe something else, the imagination is at work here. A fine ruby!
Thinking Aloud is about my (almost obsessive) love for capturing the moment and my ongoing learning curve on photography. It's about places, people, adventures, travels... it's also about creating awareness of South Africa (where I live) sharing it's beauty, and whatever else may come up along the way. Welcome!

Those flowers are so strange! They make great macros though!
Neat image Gena. I've never seen anything like this one. Wonder why they call it a bottle brush? LOL
Nifty capture of this ruby 'brush' ...

lovely photo.
I grew up with bottle brush plants, the bees sure loved them.

Bruce.
I love bottlebrush and grew big ones in California. They do not like it when the temperature gets to 32 or below, though.
The ones in Canberra don't seem to mind. We get lots of below freezing temps.
